The 'dirt' on our CSA or - How Our CSA Works

(Details, pictures, and store links are also at the bottom of the page.)

We’re often told we have the best CSA around (see What People Are Saying), and we think you’ll agree.

We offer a wide variety of high-quality, freshly picked, always non-GMO vegetables and herbs — from familiar favorites to exciting new discoveries. Best of all, you have complete control over what goes home with you. Every week, you choose from whatever is on our market tables. Nobody does CSA quite the way we do.

With us, what you see is what you get — and you get to choose from what you see -pretty much! More than that, we’re here to support you on your journey toward health, wellness, and good food. We listen, we help, and we love making “what’s for dinner?” a little easier to answer.

🍅 The Basics

Sign up and prepay for the season — the earlier, the better.

  • Early payments help us cover spring startup costs.

  • The earlier you sign up, the more you save. (We usually offer an early “same year’s price” sale plus additional benefits.)

  1. Pick up weekly at our Farmstand Market.

    • You choose exactly what you want from our tables — just like regular shopping.

    • The amount you take depends on the share size you chose (Half, Full, or Fall).

  2. Enjoy flexibility and support.

    • Ask us anything! We’ll help you discover new vegetables, share storage and cooking tips, and connect you with others who love good food.

    • You’ll also receive our CSA newsletter with updates, seasonal notes, and the occasional kitchen inspiration.

A Market walk, and you get to shop your CSA items from 5-10 Tables worth of vegetables every week. And this is why a lot of our CSA members keep coming back. Check it out.

There are a few more videos of our Market walks available when you go to the channel.

FAll CSA - and Winter

We still have everything. We are offering the first Ever Half Fall Share, anywhere, in 2025.

🍂 Fall CSA

Our Fall CSA runs from mid-October through November 30.

You’ll still enjoy many Summer vegetables as long as they’re in season, plus all the hearty fall favorites as they come in.

There’s a small overlap between the Summer and Fall CSAs — which is why we discount the Fall CSA for those who also hold a Summer share. You’ll also be able to start picking up fall vegetables early as they appear.

For Summer CSA members, fall produce isn’t included, but you’re always welcome to purchase anything you’d like.

We generally offer one Fall share size, since fall crops tend to be bulky.

However, in 2025 we introduced the first-ever Half Fall Share (yes, I checked) — for those who want something lighter or more manageable. Times are tough, and not everyone needs a full share.
This option is a “supervised” share designed to reduce waste. You’ll still receive more than your payment value per pickup, but checkout is required for tracking.
Please don’t choose this share just because it’s the least expensive — it’s built for those who truly want smaller quantities and fewer extras, with a little help to stay ‘in the lines’.

Fall Share pickups take place during our Saturday Farmstand Market (12–3 pm).
If that time doesn’t work for you, you can let us know what you’d like, and we’ll arrange a packed pickup at another time that fits your schedule.

Thanksgiving • Winter • Holiday Box (CSA-Type) - Get it anytime you like to stock your pantry

This is a one-time purchase of a CSA-style box filled with a mix of seasonal Fall and Winter produce. You don’t have to wait for the holidays — though it’s perfect for hosting guests or stocking up for cozy meals.

Available at the markets until Nov 30 and beyond by ordering.

  • Your choice of contents, two sizes. The smaller version is a tomato box plus extra ‘on the side’, the larger a Banana box well filled.

  • This makes a great gift as well as stocking your pantry for a lot of meal options. You can get this anytime.

  • We do not want to call this CSA because it is a one-time purchase. But it is a similar mix of whatever is in season.

This makes a lovely gift or a great way to restock your pantry with fresh farm food.

While not a CSA share, it’s created in the same spirit — farm-direct, seasonal, and generous.

You can order anytime. Get extra by ordering over the phone and paying cash (no processing fees), or order online for convenience.

Each share offers plenty for family meals, with a little extra to store or share if you like.

🌿 Why CSA?

When you join our CSA, you’re doing more than buying vegetables. You’re investing in your own food security and in the local land and farm that feed you. Whatever the season brings, you have a steady source of fresh, nourishing food — and a farm family that’s here for you.

Choose What You Like

-How Your Share Works

Shop the Market Tables Every week, you select your own harvest directly from our Farmstand Market tables. We don’t do mystery boxes; you choose the items your family actually wants.

The Full Harvest (With a Few Exceptions) You have access to almost everything we pick. The only things not included in the base share are eggs, apples, and a few specialty items. Also, while summer is plenty, the specific "Fall Harvest" crops are reserved for those with a Fall CSA subscription.

One Standard for Everyone Our Retail and CSA are essentially one. We don’t "channel" the best stuff to one side or use the CSA to dump excess. You’re getting the same premium quality as our retail customers, and you’re always welcome to purchase extra items or eggs alongside your share.

Discounts & Abundance As a member, you’ll often enjoy a discount on those extra market purchases. And when the farm is truly abundant, you’re welcome to take a little more—it’s your choice. Just keep in mind that abundance works best when it’s shared fairly. Our CSA is only "too much" if you take more than you can actually use!

“Fairness & Shared Abundance.” ⚖️

A note on fairness and sustainability
Over the years, we’ve noticed that when harvests are generous, it can be tempting to take a little more — and we get it! Everything looks so good. But part of what makes this model work is each member choosing responsibly.

This is why most find our CSA “Just right” - because YOU decide what goes home with you.

Please take what fits your household’s needs for the week. If you often find yourself with more than you can use, it’s a sign to adjust your bag size or how you fill it, rather than overstuffing.

But if you really would like more than the share you chose, maybe you want to upgrade your share. We allow that even midseason and work something out with you that fits exactly right.

Freedom in choice only works when everyone uses that freedom thoughtfully — and we trust you to do just that.
Our goal is to offer generosity, not waste, and your awareness helps make that possible for everyone.

Pricing & Payment,

How to make it yours

Our CSA pricing is by the bag and significantly lower than retail. That doesn’t even include the generous extras we often add!

We no longer use discount codes — instead, we take care of you from the start with a SALE. This way, you don’t have to search for a code or remember to use it.

If you’d like to help us avoid processing fees, you’ll receive your “thank you” as extra vegetables or, if you prefer, a coupon for a purchase of your choice. We don’t charge you the fees.

💰 “Early Bird Savings.”
Early payments help us prepare in the spring and always get the best price.
If prices rise closer to the season, your early signup locks in the previous rate.

More Than Vegetables

You don’t just get food — you get community and care.
We love introducing you to new vegetables, helping you store and preserve them, and sharing ideas for meals or freezing, canning, or drying.

Often you’ll meet other CSA or market customers who love to chat about recipes and kitchen adventures — it’s part of the fun!

Our newsletter keeps you in the loop. We don’t send it every week anymore, but you’ll always receive what you need to know.

📰“Newsletter Notes” We don’t send it every week anymore, but you’ll always receive what you need to know, and with a little fun if possible.

Important Details

Please read. Contact us for any questions at all. We love to talk about what we do and how we do it. This avoids potential problems later on. CSA does not have refunds.

Sharing a Share

The "One Member" Rule (No Exceptions)

You are welcome to divide your produce with a friend or neighbor privately, but the farm only recognizes and processes one membership per share.

  • One Pickup: We allow only one pickup per membership per week. We cannot "split" a single share into two separate shopping times or two separate bags at the tables.

  • One Primary Contact: Only one person is the registered member for our records, newsletter, and communication.

  • Shopping as a Unit: If two people come together to shop a single share, they must shop as one unit.

  • The "One Bag" Policy: All items selected for the week must be placed into a single, share-appropriate bag or container.

Our Position: What you do with your vegetables once you leave the farm is your business. On-site, however, we recognize and process only one share per member to ensure fairness and keep the market moving smoothly.

You are welcome to buy additional items, if necessary, to make it work. Some per-share limitations are not negotiable because you split it with someone else.

Bags

You may bring your own bags or use ours. Please bring the correct number and size of bags/box that match your share. You can use smaller bags inside them for sorting — this helps avoid confusion and keeps things fair for others.
If you forget your bag, we always have bags available.

Risk Sharing & Refunds

By purchasing a share, you also agree to the principle of shared risk — the heart of what CSA means. Farming depends on weather and season, and while we do everything in our power to deliver as promised, no refunds are given by default.
We make this clear in our descriptions and ask for your signature at the start of the season to ensure everyone understands.

If you do not agree to these terms, please do not purchase a share.

Our Commitment: We’ll always do our best to make your CSA experience abundant, reliable, and enjoyable.

A Final Word

We encourage you to compare our CSA with others. Each farm does things a little differently — find the one that feels like your fit.

Ask:

  • Can I choose what I like?

  • What happens if I miss a pickup?

  • Who are the people behind the food? Who answers my questions (any/all questions)?

  • Does it feel like my kind of place?

For many, the answer leads right here.

A customer once shared her observation with me: “Everyone is leaving with big smiles and full bags.”

— Yes — and that’s exactly how it should be.

We’d love for you to be one of them. 🌿

When NOT to Get a CSA / Farmshare 🌱

Some of our customers — many of whom have tried other farmshares locally and even further away — have called this CSA the best around.
We don’t usually say that ourselves, but we share it because it came straight from them, and you might want to know. And yes, it makes us happy too. BUT.....

That said… a CSA isn’t for everyone. It might not be right if you:

❌ Rarely cook at home or don’t know how to cook (if that’s you, just come to us for retail — I’ll help get you started!)
❌ Weekends are already packed with plans and weeks are long
❌ Travel a lot and don’t freeze or preserve vegetables
❌ Only need small amounts occasionally
❌ Your household isn’t big on vegetables yet
❌ Vegetables tend to sit in the fridge too long (Good intentions)

Here’s the truth:
It’s not the vegetables that make a CSA work — it’s your cooking and eating habits.
Just signing up doesn’t magically make anyone healthier.
Picking it up, cooking it, and actually eating the vegetables… that’s where the magic happens. ✨

If several of these points sound familiar, retail shopping at the farmstand might be a better fit — and that’s totally fine.

But if most of these don’t apply to you… a CSA is honestly one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to enjoy a season of fresh vegetables. 🥕🥦

P.S. Not ready for a CSA? No problem!
Our farmstand/retail is open July-November, and we are at the Windsor Market too— pick up exactly what you want, whenever you want. 🙂 And our Website is your menu (all the things we have-mostly)

Oct 23, 2025 at the Downtown Windsor Market. Most of these items are available until hard freeze and storage crops beyond that.
